PPC Group: New agreement for a RES project portfolio of over 2 GW in Poland and Hungary

PRESS RELEASE

August 7th 2026

  • Strategic agreement for the acquisition of ABO Energy's companies in Poland and Hungary with a total RES project portfolio of over 2 GW.
  • Acquisition of fully-staffed RES project development companies with highly specialized professionals.
  • A portfolio of 99 MW projects in operation or nearing completion and over 2 GW of projects in various stages of development.
  • A new milestone for the "green" European portfolio of PPC Group – strengthening the Group's presence in Central and Southeastern Europe.

PPC Group announces the signing of a strategic agreement with the German company ABO Energy GmbH & Co. KGaA for the acquisition of its subsidiaries in Poland and Hungary, along with a RES project portfolio with a total capacity of over 2 GW. The agreement represents a new milestone for the Group’s "green" European portfolio, marking the substantial upgrade and consolidation of PPC Group's presence in Central and Southeastern Europe.

Through this agreement, PPC Group acquires ABO Energy Polska z.o.o. and ABO Energy Hungary Kft., integrating two fully staffed project development platforms along with the specialized teams operating in each country. The portfolio includes 29 SPVs holding 99 MW of PV projects in operation or nearing completion, and over 2 GW of projects (photovoltaic, wind and storage) in various stages of development.

This new business move, which follows PPC Group's recent entry into the Hungarian market (with the agreement to acquire a 57.5 MW solar park) and the Polish market (with the agreement to acquire a 277.3 MW RES portfolio), significantly accelerates the implementation of the Group's new strategic growth plan for the 2026-2030 period. The plan provides for the Group's expansion through RES and storage projects in Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia, via both organic growth and strategic acquisitions.

Acquisition of operating companies and local expertise

The transaction provides for the integration of two fully functional and already staffed local teams with proven experience in RES project development. The two platforms cover the entire development and management value chain, which includes siting, securing land, licensing, grid connection management up to the "Ready-to-Build" stage, engineering and construction supervision, as well as operation, maintenance, and financial monitoring.

The integration of these two platforms expands the Group's operational capabilities for project origination and development in both countries, securing long-term organic growth.

The new "green" portfolio in Poland and Hungary

The new portfolio is characterized by high technological and geographical diversification (photovoltaics, wind, storage), comprising 99 MW projects in operation or nearing completion and over 2 GW of projects in various stages of development.

This agreement directly supports the Group’s regional targets. The closing of the agreement for ABO Energy's subsidiary in Poland is expected in September 2026, and for Hungary within the fourth quarter of 2026.

The completion of the transactions is subject to the satisfaction of customary conditions precedent for transactions of this nature, including, among others, obtaining the necessary approvals from the relevant supervisory authorities.

The Deputy CEO of RES of PPC Group, Mr. Konstantinos Mavros, stressed that "the agreement with ABO Energy represents a decisive qualitative leap for PPC Group in Central Europe. We are not just acquiring an excellent portfolio of projects, but we are welcoming into our team two experienced and highly successful local teams in Poland and Hungary. Combined with our recent agreements with EDP Renewables and Greenvolt, we are building a robust, regional platform that will form the core of our international growth in Central Europe up to 2030."

Accelerating expansion across Central and Southeastern Europe

To capitalize on the significant opportunities across the wider region, PPC Group is accelerating its growth, targeting a doubling of its total installed capacity to 24.3 GW by 2030, from 12.4 GW in 2025. This will be achieved by significantly increasing new capacity additions to 2.4 GW per year, primarily across renewables, flexible generation and energy storage.

The expansion into Poland and Hungary represents the natural geographical extension of the Group’s leading position in Greece and Romania, while an extensive investment plan is also under development across its other markets of operation, including Italy, Bulgaria, Croatia and Hungary. By 2030, 45% of the Group’s installed capacity will be located outside Greece, supported by a balanced energy mix comprising all modern generation technologies (solar, wind, hydroelectric, natural gas) and energy storage, ensuring both geographical and technological diversification.

In an era where energy and technology have become critical factors for competitiveness, security, and resilience, PPC Group is evolving into a pillar of stability for the European market, investing in critical energy and technological infrastructure that safeguards the wider region and generates long-term value.
