Strategy and Actions for Occupational Health and Safety

PPC's Occupational Health and Safety Strategy is aligned with the objective of complying with the applicable legislation (Greek and European Union) as well as with the objective of eliminating unsafe conditions for all employees and third parties. In addition to the requirements of the legislation, PPC studies and implements actions and initiatives, which contribute positively to the protection of Health & Safety.

The pillars of PPC SA's Health & Safety Strategy are:

• Compliance with the existing legislation.
• Implementation of Health & Safety Management Systems
• Ensuring the Health and Safety of employees and third parties by eliminating unsafe conditions
• Promotion of a corporate culture for Occupational Health and Safety.
• Innovations related to Occupational Health and Safety.

The Occupational Health and Safety Department (OHSD) manages at central level and coordinates Occupational Health and Safety issues in cooperation with the competent Units of PPC Group. It is the Internal Protection & Prevention Service (IHPPS) of PPC. Simultaneously, it is a licensed External Protection & Prevention Service Provider authorized to provide Protection & Prevention services to customers inside and outside the PPC Group.

The OHSD coordinates the work of Occupational Physicians and Safety Technicians in units of the Group. In this context, it provides support services in regard to occupational medicine, written risk assessments, harmful agent measurements, safety and fire protection material procurement, management of solid and liquid waste, recording and statistical analysis of accidents, training, compilation of training material and inspection of workspaces. It is also responsible for the operation of Occupational Medicine Offices – First Aid Rooms located in the Company’s units as well as for social workers’ and psychologists’ services. Moreover, it is charged with Medical Control and the monitoring of staff absence due to sickness. These specific Health and Safety services are also provided by the OHSD to customers outside PPC.

At the Power Plants and the Mining Units there are 19 fully equipped First Aid Rooms, staffed with nursing personnel (approximately 75 people) and 25 fully equipped ambulances, which in special cases also serve the local communities.

An Occupational Health and Safety Management System, in accordance with the requirements of the ISO 45001:2018 standard, is applied in the above-mentioned activities of the Power Plants and Mines.

In this context, the OHSD has developed, documented and implements a Quality Management System (QMS), which meets the requirements of the ELOT EN ISO 9001:2015 standard, for all activities related to the planning, implementation and management of operational and support services of Occupational Health and Safety in all its customers' units.
